Macro Viewpoint
The euphoria from this week’s mix of market tailwinds seems to have faded, with investors now waiting for the next catalyst. That could come later today from U.S. retail sales data and key earnings.
U.S. futures were trading lower in early hours, as some profit-taking kicked in. The S&P 500 failed to break through the 5,900 level for the second day in a row.
It’s been a choppy week for equities. Markets jumped on Monday and Tuesday after the U.S. and China agreed to a 90-day pause on their ongoing tariff battle.
Later today, all eyes will be on comments from Fed Chair Powell, especially after a few Fed officials signaled earlier in the week that rates will stay on hold for now while the central bank gauges how trade developments and tariffs might influence inflation and broader economic conditions.
